Albion Mercer carries out commercial fire risk assessments for a range of non-residential premises. The assessment considers the people at risk, fire hazards, escape arrangements, fire precautions and the management systems supporting them.

Assessments shaped around how the premises are actually used
Commercial buildings differ widely in occupation, layout and management. The assessment therefore starts with the premises and the people using them rather than applying a generic checklist.
Retail and hospitality
Public access, staff arrangements, sleeping risk where applicable, back-of-house areas and evacuation arrangements are assessed in context.
Other non-residential premises
The scope is adapted to the actual premises, its occupancy and the fire-safety responsibilities of the Responsible Person.
Assessment process
Inspection, evidence and management arrangements
The assessment considers the visible condition of the premises together with relevant information made available by the client. That can include testing and servicing records, emergency arrangements, staff information and other fire-safety documentation relevant to the building.
Where evidence is unavailable or a specialist matter sits outside the visual assessment scope, the limitation is recorded and an appropriate action can be identified.
Reporting
A report the Responsible Person can use
The report sets out significant findings and prioritised actions in plain, practical language. The intention is to help the Responsible Person understand what requires attention and what supporting evidence or further specialist input may be needed.
Albion Mercer uses a structured commercial assessment approach informed by PAS 79-1 principles where applicable.
Preparation
Useful information before the inspection
Previous assessments, fire-alarm and emergency-lighting records, electrical records, evacuation information and relevant building documentation can all help provide context. Their absence does not prevent an inspection, but it may affect what can be evidenced.
